Roansy Contreras did not disappoint in his Major League debut on Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park. He was composed and it did not look like the lights were too bright for the young 21-year-old pitcher as he toed the rubber for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Roansy Contreras had a short but impressive outing against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday evening. Making his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Conteras showed why he has become one of the top pitching prospects in the Pirate farm system.
In the 1st inning Rafael Ortega and Willson Contreras both singled but Contreras eventually got out of the mini jam by striking out Pittsburgh native, Ian Happ on a filthy 97mph fastball pitch up and away.
In the 2nd inning, Contreras struck out two more batters and only allowed one walk. In his final inning of work in the 3rd, Contreras had another strikeout against his counterpart, Kyle Hendricks and only gave up one hit which was a double by Frank Schwindel. He got out of the inning on a nice play at 3rd base by Hoy Park.
It was a solid outing by the young pitcher and he showed a lot of promise in his short stint on the mound. His final line was 3 innings pitched allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk, 0 earned runs, and 4 strikeouts on 46 pitches thrown.
Prior to the start I made a prediction earlier on twitter that he would go 4 innings allowing only 3 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. It was nice to see he did even better than what I was predicting he would. I cannot wait to see his next start.
