Oneil Cruz has been one of the best prospects in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system this season. The fans will now get to see him in PNC Park after news broke Friday night that he is on his way to Pittsburgh.
Hector Gomez, MLB insider once again breaks the news that one of the top prospects with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Oneil Cruz is getting the call up to Pittsburgh. Two days prior, Gomez was the first to report that right-handed pitcher, Roansy Contreras was also getting called up. This was later confirmed by Pittsburgh Pirates beat writer, Jason Mackey.
Cruz will be heading to Pittsburgh on a hot streak. He was dominating in Triple-A Indianapolis, so it was only fair that he be rewarded with the promotion.

Back on July 31st 2017, Neal Huntington traded for shortstop Oneil Cruz that sent left-handed pitcher Tony Watson to the Dodgers. Little did fans know at the time that they were getting such a special talent. Cruz stands at 6’7” and weighs 210 pounds and according to MLB Pipeline, he is the current #3 prospect for the Pirates and #52 in all of baseball.
With Altoona, Cruz slashed an impressive .292./.346/.536 in 62 games. He showed a lot more power this year by hitting a total of 12 homeruns with the Curve. Cruz was placed on the 7-day injured list on July 6th because of a shoulder injury. This shut him down for almost 2 months. He was reactivated on August 20th and spent most of his time as the designated hitter on his return. On September 20th was promoted to Triple-A Indy.
At Indianapolis, Cruz put up video game numbers. In just 6 games with the Indians, Cruz has had 11 hits in 21 at bats. 5 of those hits were for homeruns. He also has 8 walks and 1 stolen base. He is currently slashing .524/.655/1.286 with an OPS of 1.941. I hope PNC Park is packed for his debut because the fans are going to want to see this kid in action.
