With Major League Baseball’s work-stoppage in full swing let’s take a look at what starting pitching options the Pittsburgh Pirates will have when the season does begin

Entering the offseason one area on the Major League roster that general manager Ben Cherington needed to address for the Pittsburgh Pirates was the starting rotation. Last season the Pirates had one of the worst starting rotations, if not the worst, in all of baseball. Even with the team not in a position to contend in 2022 they could not roll into the season without addressing the rotation.

Well, prior to the start of MLB’s work-stoppage, Cherington made multiple moves, albeit some minor, to address to the starting rotation for 2022. A pair of free agent signings, one of which was a minor league signing, and the Jacob Stallings trade have added potential starting pitchers for next season.

With MLB’s work-stoppage looking like one that will not end any time soon, barring signing any players to a minor league contract, it could be a while until the Pittsburgh Pirates can add any additional starting rotation help for 2022. So, today, we will take a look at the current options for the team’s starting rotation whenever the work-stoppage ends and spring training begins.
