The Pittsburgh Pirates have spent a lot of time rebuilding the farm system. So far, the team has been receiving positive reviews for their work.
Over the last week or two plenty of scouting services have started to post their top prospects for the 2022 season. The Pittsburgh Pirates have been well represented on those lists so far. Ben Cherington and company have quickly taken this farm system from an average one to one of the best in Baseball.
This can be seen in FanGraphs’ most recent post which is about the Pittsburgh Pirates top prospects entering 2022. The analytics-based site has listed an astonishing 61 prospects that were deemed notable enough to be included. This is really impressive as the Organization has added 10 more notable prospects to this list since 2021.
The usual suspects are at the top of FanGraphs rankings. Oneil Cruz is ranked as the team’s top prospect and is listed as a 60 FV. It is rare to see players receive such a high future value grade. For reference, this would place Cruz somewhere inside the Top 20 overall prospects in the game. This just shows what the Pittsburgh Pirates may have in the slugger Cruz.
One can also find several of the Pittsburgh Pirates 2022 Draft picks on the list. Henry Davis ranks right behind Cruz at #2 with a 55 FV. Even more impressive, Bubba Chandler finds himself already ranked as a Top 10 prospect in the Organization. The other two big picks in Anthony Solometo and Lonnie White Jr. also made the Top 30.
We will have a more in-depth look and reaction for the list up on the site as well so be sure to check that out. For now, head over to FanGraphs and check out the rankings and notes they have on some of our up-and-coming players. It definitely gives reason for optimism about the Pittsburgh Pirates future.
