In a move that did not come as a surprise Major League Baseball announced the cancellation of more spring training games on Friday

Major League Baseball and the MLBPA continue to be far apart on reaching a deal on a new CBA. Due to this the Pittsburgh Pirates and the rest of Major League Baseball remain unable to play games. This includes spring training games.

With the two sides still far apart on a new CBA deal all spring training games through March 4th had already been canceled. The two sides had previously hoped to reach a deal by this Monday, February 28th.

The belief has long been that a deal would have to be reach by February 28th in order to ensure there would still be a 162 game regular season. Well, the odds of a deal getting done by Monday looks bleaker each day and this has already led to further game cancellations.

On Friday, MLB announced that all spring training games through at least March 7th had now been cancelled. While this deal was little more than a formality, it is not any less disheartening. IT became clear late in the week that a deal would not be reached by this weekend which would lead ot the cancellation of more spring training games.

At this point MLB’s normal 162 game regular season is certainly in danger. If a full 162 games are not played it would be the second time in three seasons that MLB failed to play a full 162 game season.

If there is any major sport in America that can not afford to have this much turmoil and to have games canceled it is baseball. Hopefully, for the sake and health of the sport, the two sides are able to reach a deal ASAP, and prevent the loss of regular season games as best they can.
