Third Base – Dariel Lopez

Dariel Lopez was another 2018 signing of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The infielder had a great showing in 2019 showing, and while he didn’t match those numbers in 2021, he still was a respectable hitter for the Bradenton Marauders, considering he was only in his age-19 season.

Lopez put up a .258/.341/.393 line, .348 wOBA, and 103 wRC+. The infield prospect had a 9.9% walk rate, but that was the only number that stood out. Overall, he was a league-average bat who didn’t excel in any particular category.

Despite his lackluster power numbers, Lopez has lots of raw power. He already receives average grades for his current state and projects to be a 60-grade tool long term. His game power tool also receives similar grades, and his hit tool is another solid weapon. There’s a lot of offensive upside in Lopez.

He’s played every infield position so far. He split most of his time between third base and shortstop, played a few innings over at the keystone, and logged 39 innings at first base back in 2019. Defensively, he projects as a solid hot corner defender with plus pop.
