Andrew McCutchen – New York Yankees

The Pirates had traded Andrew McCutchen to the San Francisco Giants after the 2017 season. They netted now one of the best outfielders in the game, Bryan Reynolds, as well as right-hander Kyle Crick.

Cutch played 130 games as a Giant. He was a solid player for the team as he hit .257/.357/.415 with a .338 wOBA and 115 wRC+. Although he was a productive hitter, the Giants entered the waiver deadline as a .500 team. Being 6.5 games out of first place for the division and eight games out of a Wild Card spot, the Giants decided to sell off Cutch to the New York Yankees at the waiver deadline.

McCutchen only appeared in 25 games and had 114 plate appearances as part of the Yankee outfield, but he made the most of it. In September, he caught on fire, batting .253/.421/.471 with a .391 wOBA and 150 wRC+. He made a formidable outfield along with Aaron Hick and Aaron Judge. He was a phenominal pick-up for the Yankees down the stretch.

However, this would be the only 25 games he’d play as a New York Yankee. After the season, the Philadelphia Phillies signed him to a three-year contract with a fourth-year option. While Cutch may not be the batter he once was with the Pirates, he’s consistently put up above-average numbers, and he’s never had an OPS+ below 100 in his career yet.
