Poor offense sinks the Curve
At the Double-A level the Altoona Curve struggled to get the bats going. This led to the Pittsburgh Pirates Double-A affiliate suffering a 4-1 loss against the Akron RubberDucks. With the loss, the Curve fell to 9-12 on the season.
After collecting 4 hits on Saturday, leadoff man Jared Triolo was 0-for-3 with a walk. In the two hole Nick Gonzales was 0-for-4. Any time the top of a team’s lineup goes 0-for-7, odds are that team will struggle to score.
Shortstop Liover Peguero was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored the lone Altoona run. Peguero now owns a .961 OPS this season as he continues his red hot start to the season for the Curve. Peguero scored on a RBI hit by Connor Scott, who went 1-for-4 with the lone Curve RBI. Altoona’s only extra base hit was a double by outfielder Lolo Sanche who was 2-for-4.
2020 draft pick Carmen Mlodzinski started for the Curve. Mlodzinski allowed 3 runs on, 2 earned, on 5 hits, a walk, a home run allowed, and 7 strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched. This was another positive start and a step in the right direction for Mlodzinski.
Noe Toribio and Austin Roberts pitched in relief of Mlodzinski. Toribio allowed a hit and struck out a pair in 2.0 scoreless innings pitched. In his 1 inning of work Roberts allowed a solo home run, while also walking a batter and striking out 2.
