Endy Rodriguez helps High-A Greensboro get a needed victory
To start the season the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers have struggled. Sunday afternoon, however, they were able to capture a needed victory over the Rome Braves by the score of 7-6. With the victory Greensboro improved to 8-13.
Sean Sullivan started for the Grasshoppers and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched. Ricky DeVito walked a pair, struck out a pair and allowed a hit in 2 scoreless innings pitched.
Cam Junker was next up. Junker was hurt by a fielding error committed by Ernny Ordonez. Junker allowed a hit, a home run, issued a walk and struck a batter out to go with his 3 unearned runs allowed.
Thankfully, the Grasshoppers would pick Junker up. After Tyler Samaniego and Jack Carey combined to pitch 2 scoreless innings of relief, the Grasshopper offense was able to help pull out the victory.
Matt Gorski stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter in the 8th inning and launched his 6th home run of the season. Gorski’s blast gave the team back the lead at 7-6 and it was a lead they did not relinquish.
In addition to Gorski, shortstop Daríel Lopez and catcher Endy Rodriguez each hit a home run as well. This was part of a 3-for-5 performance for Rodriguez. Hudson Head also had a pair of hits for the Grasshoppers as well as a double.
