Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects: Two Strong Starts, Big Night for AA Middle Infield

Curve fall despite a big night from their middle infield

The Double-A Altoona Curve were defeated by the Akron RubberDucks 4-2, falling to 9-11 on the season. Despite the loss it was a strong night at the plate for the middle infield of the Curve.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2020 first-round pick Nick Gonzales was 3-for-5 at the plate with a RBI. Jared Triolo started at shortstop and went 4-for-5 with a run scored. On the season Triolo is now hitting .292.

Usual shortstop Liover Peguero served as the team’s designated hitter. While he was 0-for-3 at the plate, Peguero did draw a pair of walks putting his OPS on the season at .937. First baseman Aaron Shackelford hit a double which was the only other hit of the night for the Curve.

Lefty Omar Cruz started for the Curve. Cruz allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, a pair of home runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeout in 4.2 innings pitched. J.C. Flowers allowed a hit and a walk while striking out 3 in 2.1 innings pitched. Zach Matson pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning out of the Altoona bullpen.
