Struggles continue for the Greensboro Grasshoppers
The High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers have struggled to replicate their success from the 2021 season thus far this season. Following an 8-5 loss against the Rome Braves on Saturday the Grasshoppers are now 7-13 on the season.
After score a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning the Grasshoppers would not score again until the 7th inning. Despite a 3-run 7th inning it was not enough to complete a late inning rally for Greensboro.
Second baseman Maikol Escotto was 3-for-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Escotto also drove in 2 runs, and hit his 1st triple of the season. Catcher Henry Davis was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, Abrahan Gutierrez started at first base and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a RBI.
Nick Garcia, who the Pittsburgh Pirates selected 79th overall in 2020, started for the Grasshoppers and struggled. Garcia allowed 7 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, a home run and he struck out 4 in 3.1 innings pitched.
Nick Dombkowski pitched in relief of Garcia, continuing his strong start to the season. 2.2 scoreless innings pitched Dombkowski allowed 2 hits, walked a batter and struck out 4. Michell Miliano allowed a run with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings pitched.
