Despite dropping two of three to the San Diego Padres over the weekend there were some positives for the Pittsburgh Pirates

This past weekend there were a lot of familiar themes for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team found themselves trialing early, only to rally to get back into the game. This includes rallying to victory on Saturday night.

However, the Pirates still lost two of the three games at PNC Park against the San Diego Padres. With these losses the Pirates are now 9-13 on the season. The series loss puts the Pirates at 2-4-1 in their 7 series played thus far this season.

Despite the series loss it was not all bad for the Pirates. There were two players who are entrenched in an important 2022 season if they are going to have a long-term future with the organization who had a strong series.

The biggest issue for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series was the usually reliable bullpen. Pirate relievers allowed 7 earned runs in 12.2 innings pitched, relievers also allowed 3 unearned runs over the weekend. Hopefully, the bullpen will get back on their normal track starting against the Detroit Tigers this week.
