Mike Burrows dominates again, two more hits for Oneil Cruz and more in a Mother’s Day edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup

Sunday was a woeful day for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The major league club suffered a 7-3 loss against the Cincinnati Reds, who are off to one of the worst stars in MLB history, to cap off an embarrassing series loss.

In the Pirate farm system things did not go much better. The organization’s farm clubs were jsut 2-2 on Mother’s Day. However, there were some noteworthy performances. Additionally, Henry Davis being promoted from High-A to Double-A was a big positive.

At the Triple-A level the Indianapolis Indians suffered a 5-1 loss against the Louisville Bats. With the loss the Indians are now 14-14 on the season. Miguel Yajure made his first start of the season for Indy after beginning the year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yajure allowed a hit and struck out 5 in 2 scoreless innings pitched.

Jerad Eickhoff and Matt Eckelman followed Yajure, but both struggled. Eickhoff and Eckelman combined to allow 3 runs in 2 innings pitched. Both pitchers allowed a home run. Eric Hanhold also struggled out of the Indy bullpen allowing a 2-run home run in his inning of work.

Sunday afternoon Oneil Cruz started in left field and picked up two hits for the Indians. Following a sluggish start to the season Cruz appears to be finding his groove at the plate in the last week or so. His time to return to Pittsburgh is likely getting close.

Mason Martin went 1-for-4 for Indy. In the month of May the slugging first baseman has struggled as he is now 1-for-19 with 9 strikeouts. The only other Indianapolis hit was a single by Hoy Park who also drew a walk in the loss.
