How did the minor league affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates fair on Tuesday night?
As always, we will start this edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup with a look at the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.
Leading off and starting in left field, before shifting to shortstop, Oneil Cruz was 1-for-5 with a run scored for Indianapolis in their 7-0 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens. With the win the Indians improved to 18-17 on the season.
As he continues to make a push for a MLB promotion second baseman Ji-Hwan Bae was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. First baseman Mason Martin 2-for-3 with a walk, is 11th double of the season and 2 runs scored.
Outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba also hit a double. It was the 7th double of the season for Smith-Njigba who also drew a walk. Serving as the team’s designated hitter Cal Mitchell was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Catcher Carter Bins was 2-for-4 and drove in a pair.
Osvaldo Bido served as Indy’s opener, walking a batter and striking a batter out in a scoreless inning pitched. Cody Bolton followed with 4 shutout innings, walking a batter and striking out 6. Cam Vieaux and Hunter Stratton combined to pitched 3 scoreless innings. Yerry De Los Santos then continued his borderline dominant start to the inning with a strikeout as part of a 1-2-3 9th inning.
