Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects: Extra Base Hits Galore for Altoona & More

Double-A Altoona rode 8 extra base hits to a 12-2 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, improving to 15-19 on the season
Playing at third base Jared Triolo once again bat leadoff for the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Triolo was a table setter for the Curve going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks. After a woeful start to the season 2020 first-round pick Nick Gonzales continues to bounce back after going 3-for-4 with his 3rd home run of the season, 5th and 6th double, and he drove in 3 runs.
Catcher Blake Sabol went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and 4 RBI. He hit his 3rd and 4th home runs of the season, improving his OPS to .866. Sabol may find himself at Triple-A Indy sooner rather than later.
Designated hitter Andres Alvarez was 1-for-4 with his 5th home run of the season, while right fiedler Connor Scott was 2-for-4 with a run scored and his 6th double. First baseman Aaron Shackelford also hit a double.
Kyle Nicolas toed the rubber for the Curve allowing 1 run on 4 hits, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched. On the season he now has a 3.45 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Nicolas is starting to look like the prized piece of the Jacob Stallings trade.
Travis MacGregor followed Nicolas. MacGregor allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 4 walks and 2 streikotus in 2.2 innings pitched. Zach Matson was next up, retiring all 4 batters he faced and striking out a pair in 1.1 innings pitched. Tahnaj Thomas pitched a scoreless 9th inning to finish the game.
