Single-A affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates go 0-2 on Tuesday night
High-A Greensboro fell to 14-19 on the season with a 6-2 loss against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. At the top of the lineup shortstop Maikol Escotto and second baseman Endy Rodriguez combined to go 0-for-8 with a walk. This proved to be costly, especially as three-hole hitter Matt Gorski was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and clean up man Jacob Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a solo home run.
Had Escotto and Rodriguez been able to set the table for Gorski and Gonzalez, the Grasshoppers likely would have scored a few more runs. The home runs continue to the terrific seasons Gorski and Gonzalez are having. Gorski now has 10 home runs and a .972 OPS. Gonzalez has 4 home runs and a 1.984 OPS in 33 plate appearances since being promoted to Greensboro. Both Gorski and Gonzalez should find themselves at Altoona this season.
Jared Jones started for Greensboro and allowed just 3 hit while walking a pair and striking out 3 in 5 innings pitched. However, he was brunt by some poor defense which led to 3 runs being allowed, although just 1 of them was earned.
Santiago Florez allowed a solo home run while striking out 3 in 2 innings pitched. Garrett Leonard also pitched 2 innings of relief for the Grasshoppers, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, a walk, and a strikeout.
Low-A Bradenton fell to 16-18 on the season with a 4-0 loss against the Palm Beach Cardinals. In the loss Luis Peralta turned in a strong start allowing 2 runs on a home run, 5 hits, no walks and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. Carlos Lomeli pitched 2 scoreless innings before Yunior Thibo allowed 2 runs in the 8th inning.
Marauder hitters were just 6-for-31 with 3 walks in the loss. Both shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng and center fielder Jase Bowen were 2-for-4 with a double. Juan Jerez and Brenden Dixon were the only other Marauder batters to collect a base hit.
