The Pittsburgh Pirates are seeing two of their top power prospects put together really strong months. It might be time to promote them.
Things should just improve for the Pittsburgh Pirates as time goes on. The team has recently called up Roansy Contreras and Yerry De Los Santos, both whom are pitchers. So when does the offensive upside start to make its way up?
Well, two of the prospects making strong pushes are Mason Martin and Oneil Cruz. Obviously, these are names that Pittsburgh Pirates fans should know. Cruz is one of the top prospects in Baseball and Martin might be the team’s future first baseman, he has the power to be. Today, the duo hit a couple of big home runs to help get Indianapolis back into the game. Here is the bomb from Cruz, take note of him as he makes his way around the bases.
Here is Martin’s bomb, imagine this power at PNC Park:
These two hitters are integral to the Pittsburgh Pirates future. They both are the top two power prospects in the team’s system, something this team has lacked for years. If they can slot in behind Bryan Reynolds and Ke’Bryan Hayes then we might start to see a semblance of this team’s future lineup.
For now, it is up to time and the Pittsburgh Pirates Front Office. The Super-2 deadline has passed and both players will not be subject to losing any team control. Now it is just a matter of making room for them. It is easy to say “cut this player or that player”, but in reality, this Front Office is trying to give players every opportunity before moving on. Until they are ready to move on from some of the middling veteran players, then we will not see Cruz or Martin.
