High-A Greensboro rained out, while Low-A Bradenton suffers a lopsided loss
Thursday night the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates were rained out. Following the rain out the Greensboro Grasshoppers will now play a doubleheader against the Asheville Tourists on Friday.
The Low-A Bradenton Marauders fell to 19-23 on the season following a 9-2 loss against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. At the top of Bradenton’s lineup center fielder Sergio Campana was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Brenden Dixon hit second and collected his 2nd triple of the season while driving in both Marauder runs. Dixon now owns a .792 OPS on the season. Rodolfo Nolasco, Juan Jerez and and Mike Jarvis were each 1-for-4. Alexander Mojica went 0-for-3 with a walk.
Po-Yu Chen started for the Marauders, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, and a home run in 5 innings pitched. Chen did strikeout 7 Mighty Mussel batters, however. Thus far the season has been a disappointing one for Chen who now owns a 5.94 ERA in 33.1 innings pitched, but the 20-year-old righty has struck out 40 batters in his 33.1 innings pitched.
Dante Mendoza followed Chen, allowing 2 unearned runs on a hit and walk in 1 innings pitched. Yunior Thibo was also hurt by poor defense, allowing an unearned run despite striking out 4 and allowing just a single hit in 2 innings pitched. Jack Hartman pitched the 9th for the Marauders, and while he recorded a strikeout he also surrendered a solo home run.
