The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted a wave of young prospects over the last few weeks. One has made a big impact over the last two games.
Last year when the Pittsburgh Pirates traded Adam Frazier to the San Diego Padres the main prospect coming back was Tucapita Marcano. Also in the deal were outfielder Jack Suwinski and pitching prospect Michell Mialano. At the time the deal was viewed as a decent return for the Buc’s second baseman.
Marcano was a player whom the Front Office targetted the previous offseason in Joe Musgrove talks but they were not able to get him in that deal. So when they circled back to Marcano in the Frazier deal it showed just how much the Front Office thought of him.
After getting a cup of coffee with the Padres in 2021, Marcano spent most of the 2022 season in the minor leagues. Marcano played with the Altoona Curve and Indianapolis Indians at the end of last season upon coming over in the trade.
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Marcano at Double-A to start the season, citing at-bats as to why he was not in Triple-A. Well, that must have actually been the case. After batting .312 across 29 games the Bucs promoted him to the Majors. So far it has paid off as he has gotten off to a hot start. Marcano has hit homers in both games against the Dodgers so far:
Here is his first home run of his career against Walker Beuhler:

He followed up the next night by taking Julio Urias deep:

Both homers were big parts of the Pittsburgh Pirates offense over the last two games. Not only was it great to see him taking advantage of his opportunity, but also to show some power, a tool in question for him. Furthermore, these were not just against some middle-of-the-road pitchers. Both Beuhler and Urias and two of the best in the National League and he went lefty-on-lefty against Urias.
