Despite suffering a loss, potential near future Pittsburgh Pirates players perform well for Triple-A Indianapolis
Multiple Pittsburgh Pirates prospects continue to push to earn a promotion from Triple-A Indianapolis. In Thursday night’s 4-1 loss against the Omaha Storm Chasers that dropped the Indians to 25-25 on the season, more than one prospect pushing for a promotion performed well.
Leading the way was starting pitch Cody Bolton. In 5 innings pitched Bolton allowed a solo home run, one other hit, he walked a pair and struck out 7. In 11 games pitched this season, 7 starts, Bolton now owns a 2.78 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.
Outfielder Travis Swaggerty also continued to push for a MLB promotion, going 2-for-4 to raise his OPS on the season to .760 following a dominant month of May. While Ji-Hwan Bae and Mason Martin were both 0-4, both have an OPS of .838 or higher as they push or a promotion to the majors.
Outfielder Bligh Madris was 2-for-4. This included a walk and his 4th home run of the season. Madris, like Swaggerty, had a huge month of May and now has an OPS over .800 on the season. Jared Oliva and Canaan Smith-Njigba each had a hit as well.
In relief of Bolton, Cam Alldred followed with a 1-2-3 inning. Aaron Fletcher allowed 2 unearned runs due to a Josh Bissonette error, and Eric Hanhold struck out a batter in the 8th inning.
