It was a 1-1 night for the Single-A affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates

Following a 7-6 12 inning victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers are now 21-26 on the season. Domingo Gonzalez started for the Grasshoppers, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts and a home run in 3.2 innings pitched.

Santiago Florez was the first pitcher out of Greensboro’s bullpen, in 2.1 innings pitched he struck out 3 batters and allowed a solo home run. Rick DeVito had a strong outing. He faced 6 batters, retiring each of them and striking out 3.

Cam Junker and Nick Dombkowski combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless, hitless innings of relief to go wit ha combined 4 strikeouts. On the season Junker now has a 3.93 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 18.1 innings pitched, while Dombkowski has an 1.80 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. Both are developing into solid relief pitching prospects for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

At the top of Greensboro’s lineup Hudson Head was 1-for-6 with a run scored. Endy Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with 2 walks, a RBI and his 3rd triple of the season. Endy now has a strong .823 OPS this season.

Jacob Gonzalez continues to assault opposing pitching going 2-for-5 with a RBI and a walk. If he continues to do what he has done between Bradenton and Greensboro, then the Pittsburgh Pirates will likely promote him to Double-A sooner rather than later.

Designated hitter Abrahan Gutierrez was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI. This included Gutierrez’s 3rd home run of the season. Sammy Siani was 2-for-4 with a double, while Ernny Ordonez hit a double.

Low-A Bradenton was the lone Pittsburgh Pirates minor league affiliate to suffer a loss on Thursday night. The Marauders lost to the Lakeland Flying Tigers 9-4 to fall to 21-27 on the season.

Center fielder Jase Bowen was 2-for-4 with his 7th home run of the season. Rodolfo Nolasco was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Mike Jarvis was 1-for-3 wit ha double and Juan Jerez had a hit in his lone at-bat of the night.

Anthony Solometo made his second Low-A start. The highly touted lefty allowed just 1 run on 3 hits, no walks and 4 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched. He also flashed a deadly changeup during the start.
