Double-A Altoona picks up a victory
The Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, picked up a 5-3 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Saturday. With the victory, the Curve are now 24-26 on the season.
Luis Ortiz started for the Curve and turned in a strong start. Ortiz allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Even though Ortiz now has a 4.53 ERA on the season, he has struck out 53 batters in 43.2 innings pitched.
Noe Toribio and Tyler Samaniego followed Ortiz, continuing their strong seasons. The two combined to allow a run on 3 hits and 5 strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched. Toribio now has a 1.97 ERA on the season, while Samaniego has yet to allow a run since being promoted to Double-A.
Shortstop Andres Alvarez bat leadoff, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. Two-hole hitter Jared Triolo was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Blake Sabol, who should get an opportunity as the Pirate catcher, went 2-for-4 with his 6th home run and 3 triple of the season. Again, it’s time for Sabol in the majors.
Right fielder Matt Gorksi also had a multi-hit performance. Gorski was 2-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI. Center fielder Connor Scott also had a hit for the Curve in their victory.
