It was a successful night for the Indianapolis offense and more in Tuesday night’s Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup
Tuesday night the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians defeated the Columbus Clippers 9-6. With the win the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates got back over .500 on the season by improving to 27-26.
Jerad Eickoff allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, a walk, a home run and 2 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. Cam Alldred truck a batter out and allowed a run while pitching the 6th inning. While he landed the bases, Cam Vieaux used a pair of strikeouts to pitch a scoreless 7th inning before Eric Handhold allowed a run in the 8th inning. Austin Brice then pitched a scoreless 9th inning to close out the game.
Leading the way for the Indian offense in their victory was left fielder Canaan Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba was 3-for-5 with his 14th double of the season and 3 RBI. Rodolfo Castro also had a notable performance going 1-for-5 with his 1st home run since returning to Triple-A, and 3rd overall on the season in the minors.
Ji-Hwan Bae had another big game as well. Bae was 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored. Bae now has a 29 game on-base streak, the best in the International League this season. Oneil Cruz was 1-for-3 with 2 walks and a run scored, Mason Martin drew a walk and hit a 2-run double.
Double-A Altoona was rained out Tuesday night.
