Pittsburgh Pirates 5-tool outfield prospect, Braylon Bishop hit his first professional home run this past Thursday in the FCL.

The Pittsburgh Pirates had one of the best drafts in recent memory last season. They managed to sign 5 players ranked in the top 100 draft board by MLB Pipeline. On the list of players signed were Henry Davis, Anthony Solometo, Bubba Chandler, Lonnie White Jr., and last but surely not least Braylon Bishop.

Bishop was ranked 94th overall on MLB Pipeline’s draft board and for good reason. He has all the tools to become an everyday centerfielder in the big leagues. He can hit for average, power, and has an excellent arm with great defense in the outfield.

His draft stock fell down because of his commitment to play for the University of Arkansas, but the Pirates took a chance in the 14th round and selected him in hopes that he may eventually forgo college and sign with the team. Thankfully for all Pirates fans, he did.

Bishop has started the 2022 season on a tear in the Florida Complex League. In just 2 games, he already has 3 hits including his first professional home run.

After the game, I asked Braylon what his approach was at the plate that lead to the home run. He responded with ” To attack the fastball, I got two in a row, I had my timing on it so when he went for his 3rd fastball, I couldn’t miss it” I would say he didn’t miss it. He finished the game 2-4 with that home run and 3 RBIs.

Do not be surprised if you see him get promoted to Low-A Bradenton in the near future. He seems to be ready for higher-level competition after his very impressive extended spring training this past month and his short but hot start in the FCL.
