A 2020 Pittsburgh Pirates draft pick shoves for the Curve
Double-A Altoona improved to 27-29 on the season with a 5-2 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils on Saturday. Leading the way for the Curve was starting pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski. In 5 innings pitched, Mlodzinski allowed just 2 hits, he walked 2 and struck out 3. The only run he allowed was unearned. Mlodzinski now has a 4.25 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched this season.
Lefty Joe Jacques followed Mlodzinski. Jacques walked a batter and struck out a pair in 2 scoreless, hitless innings pitched. After starting the season on the injured list Jacques has now struck out 10 batters in a combined 6 scoreless innings pitched between Low-A and Double-A. Tahnaj Thomas pitched the final 2 innings for the Curve. While Thomas allowed a run, he walked just 1 and struck out 4.
Shortstop Live Peguero continues to do what he has done all season and hit. Peguero was 3-for-5 at the top of the lineup, with his 17th double of the season, a RBI and 2 runs scored. Returning from the minor league injured list, catcher Henry Davis was 0-for-4.
Matt Gorski started at first base going 1-for-3 with a run scored. This included his 3rd double since being promoted to Altoona. Gorski now has a healthy .821 OPS in his first 15 games at the Double-A level.
Aaron Shackelford was 2-for-4 with his 1st triple of the season and 3 RBI. Matt Fraizer started in center field going 1-for-4, while left fielder Andres Alvarez was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a RBI.
