Anthony Solometo made his 4th outing with Low-A Bradenton, Oneil Cruz had two more hits, another strong rehab outing for Nick Mears and more in Thursday’s Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup
Believe it or not, top Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Oneil Cruz had another multi-hit outing for Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday night. Cruz went 2-for-5 with his 7th double of the season and a run scored in a 10-5 loss that dropped the Indians to 30-31 on the season.
In addition to Cruz, Ji-Hwan Bae also had a strong night at the plate. Bae started in center field and went 2-for-5 with his 4th triple of the season, a RBI and 2 runs scored. Travis Swaggerty was 2-for-5 with a triple, run scored and a RBI. Catcher Taylor Davis also had a pair of hits, and making another start at first base Bligh Madris was 1-for-4 with a walk and a RBI.
Nick Mears continues to work his way back from start the season on the injured list. He struck out a batter while pitching a 1-2-3 inning for the Indians. Nathan Kirby, John O’Reilly, and Cristofer Melendez combined to allow a run on 2 hits, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched out of the bullpen.
This strong work came after Osvaldo Bido and Blake Weiman struggled for the Indians. Bido started, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, on 7 hits, a walk, 2 home runs and 2 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched. Weiman lasted just 1 inning out of the bullpen, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.
