Mike Burrows makes his Triple-A debut, Matt Gorski hits another home run, Quinn Priester impresses in Double-A debut and more in Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup
One of the top headliners in Sunday’s minor league action for the Pittsburgh Pirates was the Triple-A debut of highly touted pitching prospect Mike Burrows. The potential midseason top 100 prospect pitched 3 innings for then 32-32 Indians in a 5-3 victory, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, no walk and 4 strikeouts.
Nick Mears followed Burrows with another strong rehab outing. Mears walked a batter and allowed a hit, but struck out a pair in his scoreless inning pitched. Miguel Yajure was next up, allowing a run on 4 hits, a walk and 3 strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched. Aaron Fletcher finished the day off by allowing a hit and walking a batter in 1.1 scoreless innings pitched.
Travis Swaggerty started in center field and bat leadoff for the Indians, going 1-for-4 with his 5th Triple-A home run of the season and 2 RBI. Rodolfo Castro was also 1-for-4 with his 5th home run of the season at Triple-A, his was a 3-run blast.
Designated hitter Carter Bins was 2-for-4 and catcher Jason Delay was 1-for-3 with a double. In their final games at Indy before being promoted to the majors on Monday, Bligh Madris was 0-for-2 before being lifted from the game and Oneil Cruz was 0-for-1 with his at-bat coming as a pinch hitter.
