Grasshoppers, Renegades combined to score 26 runs in an 11 inning slugfest

It was a wild game in Greensboro on Sunday afternoon. A combined 26 runs were scored, the Pittsburgh Pirates High-A affiliate the Greensboro Grasshoppers lost 16-10 to fall to 26-36 on the season.

One of the craziest parts of the game for the Grasshoppers is that they scored 10 runs despite the top of their lineup struggling. Leadoff man Jackson Glenn and two-hole hitter Dariel Lopez were just a combined 2-for-10 with a walk in the game.

Designated hitter Jacob Gonzalez hit a double and drove in a run, first baseman Abraham Gutierrez drove in a pair of runs, and outfielder/first baseman Ernny Ordonez was 2-for-5 with a walk. Both of Ordonez’s hits were home runs, giving him 7 on the season, as part of a 5 RBI performance. Endy Rodriguez hit a pinch-hit double in his lone at-bat and shortstop Claudio Finol was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

As you can likely imagine it was a rough day for the Greensboro pitching staff.

Domingo Gonzalez started, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts and a home run in 4 innings pitched. Ricky DeVito walked a batter and allowed a run in 2 innings pitched, Eddy Yean struck out a pair while allowing a solo home run in 1.2 innings pitched and Santiago Florez got the final out of the 8th inning.

Entering the 9th inning the Grasshoppers led 7-6. Cam Junker allowed a run in the 9th, blowing the save opportunity and sending the game to extra innings. Jack Carey allowed 2 runs in the 10th inning, but the Grasshoppers struck back for 2 of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

With the game tied at 9, the Renegades put up a 7 spot in the top of the 11th inning. Wandi Montout allowed 6 hits on 4 hit and a home run. Michell Miliano would get the final out of the inning, but not before walking a batter, surrendering a hit and allowing a run.
