Recapping Sunday’s action among the minor league affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Triple-A Indianapolis Indians walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Memphis Red Birds on Sunday. With the victory, the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates improved to 35-35 on the season.
Bryse Wilson started for the Indians and continued the success he has found at Triple-A this season. Wilson held the Red Birds to 2 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks, a home run and 3 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. While Wilson has struggled mightily when pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates, he now has an ERA of just 3.16 on the season at Triple-A.
In relief of Wilson it was a successful day for the Indian bullpen. Cristofer Melendez pitched pitched 2 scoreless innings, while Aaron Fletcher and Eric Stout each pitched a scoreless inning as well. The trio combined to strikeout 4 batters while issuing just a single walk.
The top of the Indian lineup was filled with players on a rehab stint.
Second baseman Josh VanMeter bat leadoff, going 0-for-5. Kevin Newman started at shortstop and was 1-for-2 with a walk before his day ended. Ben Gamel was in the three-hole, going 1-for-3 with a run scored. The clean up hitter was first baseman Yoshi Tsutsugo. Yoshi was 0-for-1 with a walk and a RBI.
As he looks to work his way back to the majors Travis Swaggerty was 2-for-3 with a walk and his 6th Triple-A home run of the season, while Mason Martin hit his 12th home run. Ji-Hwan Bae also had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
