High-A Greensboro outslugs Hickory in a 12-10 victory

Friday night the Pittsburgh Pirates High-A affiliates, the Greensboro Grasshoppers, outslugged the Hickory Crawdads 12-10. With the high-scoring victory, the struggling Grasshoppers improved to 37-49 on the season.

We’ll start with the pitching performance for the Grasshoppers, it was a rough one. Adrian Florencio started, allowing 5 runs on eight hits, two walks, a home run, and two walks in 2.2 innings pitched.

Denny Roman followed Florencio, walking a batter and striking out three in 2.1 innings pitched. This was the lone quality pitching performance of the night for the Grasshoppers.

Jack Carey failed to record an out, allowing 4 runs on three hits including a pair of home runs. Eddy Yean allowed a run in his inning of work, and Oliver Mateo danced around a hit and two walks in a scoreless 9th inning.

First baseman Jacob Gonzalez was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run scored, and two RBI. Gonzalez now owns an .822 OPS at High-A. Catcher Endy Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with a walk and a RBI, and designated hitter Abrahan Gutierrez was 0-for-1 with three walks and three runs scored.

Center fielder Hudson Head and third baseman Dariel Lopez each had a three-hit performance. Lopez hit two solo home runs, giving him 14 long balls on the season. Head hit his 6th home run of the season and drove in three. Second baseman Jackson Glenn also had a multi-hit night.
