Pittsburgh Pirates Draft: Team Signs Group of 2022 Selections
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in the midst of signing their 2022 Draft picks. The team has announced a group of signings from Days two and three of the Draft.
The Draft pick signing deadline is August 1st, which is now less than a week away. The Pittsburgh Pirates had agreed to terms with their Compensatory First Round Selection, pitcher Thomas Harrington. They also struck deals early on with 2nd round pick Hunter Barco and 3rd round pick Jake Brannigan.
Well, over the past 24 hours the Pittsburgh Pirates have announced plenty of more signings. The team announced that they had agreed to contracts with Day 2 selections Tres Gonzalez (OF), Derek Diamond(P), J.P. Massey (P), and Mike Walsh (P). Diamond is signing for his slot value while Massey is about 25K dollars under slot. Those are the only bonuses reported as of now.
The team also signed two of their Day 3 selections. The Pittsburgh Pirates signed a couple of pitchers in 11th-round pick Dominic Perachi and 20th-round pick Joshua Loeschorn. Here is a link to the transaction announcements and also a link to keep track of all the selections and their bonus agreements.
This is great news as the Pittsburgh Pirates desperately need more and more pitching in their farm system. Other than Tres Gonzales all the signings in the picture above are pitchers. Furthermore, they are college pitchers who could potentially develop through the system quickly.
The Pittsburgh Pirates clearly are working to sign much of their 2022 Draft Class before turning their attention to first overall pick Termarr Johnson. Johnson is going to sign, there is really no way for him to improve his draft stock and there is too much risk for him to pass on pro ball. The value of the 4th pick is worth $7,010,000. The Bucs have not gone over slot on any reported bonuses so the team should be able to give Johnson the deal he is looking for.
