High-A Greensboro rolls to victory, gets over .500 in the second half of the season

The bats of the Greensboro Grasshoppers scored early an often on Wednesday afternoon. After scoring a tiro of runs in the 1st inning, the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates did not slow down, including a 10-run 6th inning, in a 19-4 victory over the Winston Salem Dash. With the victory the Grasshoppers are now 40-50 on the season, however, they are 13-12 in the second half of the season.

Designated hitter Abrahan Gutierrez was one of many Grasshopper hitters who had a big day at the plate. Gutierrez was 2-for-4 with a pair of walks and RBI, three runs scored, and his 8th home run of the season. First baseman Jacob Gonzalez (4-for-6, 2 RBI) hit his 6th home run with the Grasshoppers, while third baseman Dariel Lopez (2-for-5, walk, 2 RBI) hit his 15th home run of the season.

Mike Jarvis hit a pinch hit grand slam in his first at-bat, then singled in his second trip to the plate. Outfielder Yoyner Fajardo and Ernny Ordonez each had multi-hit performances in the victory as well.

Matt Eckelman started for the Grasshoppers, allowing a run on a hit, a walk and a pair of strikeouts in 2 innings pitched. Domingo Gonzalez followed with five strikeouts in 3 scoreless innings pitched. Cristian Charle allowed 3 runs in 2 innings of work, Jack Carey then allowed a run in 1.2 innings pitched before Wandi Montout recorded the final out of the game.
