Pittsburgh Pirates 2022 Draft: Deadline For Signings is Monday
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed a majority of their 2022 Draft Class. However, they still have a few prospects unsigned with the signing window closing.
For the Pittsburgh Pirates and the rest of Major League Baseball Monday, August 1st is the deadline for the organizations to agree to terms with their selections. This is much different than in years prior when the signing window would be open for a good month before closing. This has helped expedite the process and allows these prominent prospects to get to work in their respected Organizations.
The Pittsburgh Pirates always seem to have a prospect or two heading into the final hours of the signing window. As I write this article the team has signed 18 of their 21 total selections. This includes all of their picks inside the top 10 rounds. Of course, their top selection Termarr Johnson signed just a few days ago.
In terms of the financial numbers, the Pittsburgh Pirates are out of money. They have spent their entire Draft Bonus Pool and if they were to spend anymore they would face an overage tax to start. So, for them to make another significant signing will be difficult.
The most intriguing of the three prospects that remain unsigned is prep pitcher Yoel Tejada. The Bucs used their 19th-round pick on the prep pitcher. The righty is noted for his size as he already stands at 6’7”which helps him get his fastball into the 90s. Tejada is from Florida and has a commitment to the Florida Gators, so at this point, it seems unlikely for him to sign.
The other two players are from the college ranks. KC Hunt a right-handed junior from Mississippi State remains unsigned. He was selected in the 12th round. The other player is left-hander Julian Bosnic. The Pittsburgh Pirates used their 14th-round pick on the senior from the University of South Carolina. Teams have until Monday at 5:00 PM EST to sign their remaining selections.
