Johan Oviedo pitched well in a start for Triple-A Indianapolis, Low-A plays a doubleheader and more in Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup
Sunday afternoon the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians got back over .500 on the season. The top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Iowa Cubs 8-2, to improve to 58-57 on the 2022 season.
Johan Oviedo started for the Indians as the Pittsburgh Pirates continue to work to stretch him back out a starting pitcher. Oviedo impressed, allowing just one hit in 2.2 innings pitched. He did not walk a batter, retired nine of the 10 batters he faced and struck out 10. Oviedo has now pitched 7.2 innings since joining the Pirate organization, he’s allowed just one run on four hits, two walks and nine strikeouts.
Cody Bolton followed Oviedo and struggled at times. Bolton allowed 2 runs on three hits and two walks in 2 innings pitched. He also struck out three Iowa batters. Cam Alldred struck a batter out in 1.1 scoreless innings pitched, Travis MacGregor and Zach Matson combined to strikeout three batters in 3 scoreless innings pitched.
Hoy Park started at second base for the Indians and hit a solo home run, giving him 7 on the season at Triple-A. Catcher Carter Bins was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, his 8th Triple-A home run and two RBI. Travis Swaggerty was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while first baseman Brendt Citta was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
