High-A Greensboro sweeps doubleheader
On Thursday, the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers played a doubleheader against the Greenville Drive. Following a 3-2 victory in game one and a 6-0 victory in game two, the Grasshopper swept the doubleheader to improve to 51-63 on the season.
Nick Garcia started game one and turned in a strong start for the Grasshoppers. The righty allowed 2 runs on four hits, three walks, a home run, and nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. On the season he now owns a 4.14 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 100 innings pitched across 23 outings, 21 of which have been starts.
Mitchell Miller finished off game one for the Grasshoppers. He allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out a pair in 1.1 scoreless innings pitched to close out the tight victory for the Grasshoppers.
Greensboro also needed just two pitchers to get through game two. Ricky DeVito, who was acquired last summer in the Richard Rodríguez trade, pitched 4 scoreless innings while walking a batter, striking out four and allowing four hits. Cristian Charle followed with an impressive outing allowing two hits and striking out seven in 3 scoreless innings of work.
It was a big day for catcher Eli Wilson. Between the two games he was a combined 4-for-7 with a double, his 5th home run of the season, and three RBI. Hudson Head was 1-for-6 with a walk and a run scored on the day. Francisco Acuna was 3-for-7 with a run scored and a RBI. Jacob Gonzalez was 1-for-6 with a RBI, and Mike Jarvis drove in a pair of runs in his game one start.
