83rd overall pick Jack Brannigan

With the 83rd overall pick in the 2022 draft the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Notre Dame’s Jack Brannigan. While Brannigan was announced as a two-way player on draft night, he has only played the field and hit thus far.

Brannigan entered Sunday with 112 plate appearances with the Marauders. In these 112 PAs Brannigan has hit for a .211/.330/.337 slash line to go with a 98 wRC+. This includes his first 3 career professional home runs.

A 25.0% strikeout rate is a number that Brannigan will want to bring down, but his 13.4% walk rate is a very strong number. Brannigan has also collected three doubles while stealing six bags for the Marauders.

Being a college hitter, Brannigan should take a step forward in terms of conception he faces in 2023. It would be a surprise if he does not start the season at High-A Greensboro. If Brannigan puts up strong numbers he could climb through a level or two of the Pirate farm system next season.
