Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects: Curve Finish Season With Loss & More

Altoona caps off their strong season with a loss

The Altoona Curve played the final game of their 2022 season on Sunday afternoon. After suffering a 9-8 loss against the Reading Fightin Phils, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates finish their 2022 season with a 71-66 record.

Nick Gonzales started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI, a run scored and his 1st triple, and only, triple of the season. After starting the season slow and spending significant time on the injured list, Gonzales finishes the season with an .812 OPS in 259 at-bats with Altoona.

Henry Davis was 1-for-4 with his 8th double of the season with Altoona and a run scored, while Matt Fraizer went 2-for-3 with his 18th double, a walk, RBI, and a run scored. Fabricio Macias was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, Lolo Sanchez and Connor Scott were both 1-for-4 as well.

Pitching wise, it was a bullpen game for the Curve. Matt Eckelman started and pitched a scoreless 1st inning. Bear Bellomy followed Eckelman and struggled. Bellomy allowed 3 runs on five hits in 2 innings pitched.

Nick Dombkowski had a tremendous season. The lefty has posted a 3.07 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched across three levels this season. However, he struggled on Sunday as he recorded just one out while allowing 5 runs on three hits and a walk.

Jeffrey Passantino got the final two outs of the 4th inning, allowing a run on two hits and a walk. Omar Cruz pitched a scoreless inning, Austin Roberts walked a batter and struck a batter out in 2 scoreless innings of work, Brad Case pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and Cam Junker struck out all three batters he faced in the 9th.
