Nick Gonzales had a hit and drew a walk as he was one of three Pittsburgh Pirates prospects in the lineup for the Surprise Saguaros on Wednesday
Arizona Fall League play continues along for the Surprise Saguaros and Pittsburgh Pirates prospects. On Wednesday, the Saguaros defeated the Mesa Solar Sox 5-4. With the win the Saguaros improved to 13-7 on the season.
Infield prospect Nick Gonzales continued his strong start to the AFL season on Wednesday. Starting at second base, Gonzales was 1-for-3 with a walk. Gonzales now owns a .908 OPS in 46 plate appearances thus far in the AFL.
The strong show from Gonzales in the AFL thus far has been a very positive sign. After missing time in the regular season due to injury, Gonzales has picked up where he left off at finishing the regular season strong. Gonzales is likely putting himself in position to start the 2023 season at Triple-A Indianapolis and on the doorstep of the majors.
2021 no. 1 overall pick Henry Davis started at catcher for the Saguaros. Davis was 0-for-3 in the victory, but he did draw a walk. In 45 PAs Davis owns a .929 OPS and is getting on base a .400+ clip.
Like Gonzales, Davis missed time in the regular season due to injury. So, just seeing Davis get consistent playing time and at-bats in the AFL is huge for him and the Pirate organization.
Jacob Gonzalez started at first base for the Saguaros. The right-handed hitter was 1-for-3 with a strikeout. In 20 PAs this AFL season, Gonzalez owns a .466 OPS as he continues to look to overcome a very slow start to his season.
