Pittsburgh Pirates Podcast: Rum Bunter Radio Talks Winter Meetings Fallout
The Rum Bunter Radio crew is back to discuss Bryan Reynolds requesting a trade and more Pittsburgh Pirates fallout from baseball’s winter meetings
Being a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates is exhausting, depressing at times and ultimately sad. As a player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, at least in a situation like that of Bryan Reynolds the words used above are accurate just the same. At least Reynolds thought so.
What does this mean for the future of the outfield, even the near future of 2023? It can never be a good sign to see an elite, priming centerfield request a trade away from your team after months of shaky contract negotiations.
As this news unfolds so does the overwhelming amount of trade rumors; Yankees, Mariners, Padres, Rangers and as always the Miami Marlins. What seems realistic? A “Soto-like” deal has been the apparent ask from Pittsburgh.
This kind of return may not be realistic in a Bryan Reynolds trade, but strong return is expected for the all-star outfielder, as the guys project what they think will happen with the saga.
As the episode carries on the Rule 5 Draft is brought into conversation. Pittsburgh’s highlight selection Jose Hernandez brings exciting bullpen potential to the club, although the Pirates suffer the loss of Blake Sabol, and Emmanuel Mejia two guys that felt risky entering the day.
To close out the show the guys discuss Ben Cherington’s acquisition of Vince Velasquez, and project his role with the big league club. Does this move signal much needed bullpen help, or the desperation of Pittsburgh’s front office to add a mediocre back end veteran starter?
Winter is here, the meetings are gone and moves are still to be made. Batten down the hatches, clear the decks, Rum Bunter Radio Episode 96 is here!
