Andrew McCutchen has been the face of the Pirates since making his MLB debut in 2009. Even at 38 years old, he is still performing like a legend in the black and gold. He reminded fans of his greatness once again on Wednesday by walloping a big three-run homer against the Marlins, giving the Pirates a four-run lead and pushing them to a 5-2 victory. Not only did this home run help solidify a win, but it also helped McCutchen past another Pirates legend in the record books, aiding the star's Hall of Fame chances.
This home run marked 241 in a Pirates uniform, passing Roberto Clemente for third all-time in franchise history. Unfortunately, he will not come close to second place, as Ralph Kiner sits there with 301.
There are a few other areas where Cutch can move up in the Pirates' record books this season. With 11 more RBI, McCutchen would pass Bill Mazeroski for sixth all-time with 854. Additionally, if he steals three more bases, he would surpass Jake Stenzel for 12th all time with 189.

This home run was also the 325th of his career, tying Jermaine Dye, Willie Horton, and Justin Upton for 127th most in MLB history. A realsitic goal of seven more this season would get him to 119th, and if he gets up to 10 more, he could rank 117th.
Additionally, this puts him at 2,206 career hits. With two more, he will pass Willie Wilson for 189th-most hits in MLB history. The three runs driven in on the home run also put him at 209th all time with 1,120 career RBI.
These numbers are inching him closer to a possible Hall of Fame bid. He won't be a first ballot selection, but he should find his way in to Cooperstown at some point. Who knows? If he continues to play in 2026, these numbers are just going to continue to rise. He actually is doing much better this season than he was in 2024, so McCutchen is definitely not slowing down.
McCutchen will definitely get his number retired when it's all said and done as the 10th retired number in franchise history. Passing other Pittsburgh legends in the record books is undoubtedly helping his case to the Hall of Fame committee. No. 22 is truly remarkable and it is such a joy that he came back to break this record in his true home.
