Last season, one of the top performing Pirates prospects was Carlson Reed. All eyes were on him to soar through the organization in 2025 as he was likely to start in Double-A, but he was delayed due to an injury to his back.

Luckily, he is finally back and made his first rehab start in the FCL Monday. He went two innings, allowing three hits, one walk and three earned runs. Although it was far from dominant, the big thing is he got through two innings. His command was a bit off, but that is expected.

Getting him back to his form when he broke out by posting a 1.99 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and 10.77 K/9 is what the Pirates need. The organization has already lost too many players to injuries, recently with Hunter Barco. Maybe that puts Reed into position to become a reliever, but for now, he is still a starter taking his first steps back to returning to the mound full time.

Pirates Prospect Update: Termarr Johnson and Mitch Jebb on fire

Termarr Johnson may be the hottest hitter in the organization right now, and that could be getting him one step closer to the big leagues. He is currently riding a 10-game on-base streak during which he's hit two home runs and two triples. He is having one of his best seasons of his professional career.

Johnson has struck out just 26 times and has worked 22 walks. Those plate discipline numbers are uncommon from 20-year-olds in professional baseball. Johnson getting promoted to Triple-A soon feels very possible with this offensive approach.

Another left-handed bat in Altoona's lineup with Johnson is Mitch Jebb, and he is on fire too. The contact utility man is batting .364 with three doubles and two triples in May. He has also stolen seven bases.

Aside from power, Jebb has all the tools right now to be in the big leagues. He strikes out less than Johnson as well, with just 22 on the year, and his speed is a major plus. His fast start to the season could get him up to the next level, too. The Pirates lack offensive prospects in the organization and this start from the Altoona duo is really promising for the organization.
