Although the Pirates' farm system has taken a hit recently, plummeting in the rankings, there are still multiple notbale names that have shown their upside during spring training.
MLB spring training is not the only way fans will be able to check in on the youngsters this March, though, as the second annual Spring Breakout game is coming up, where the rosters will be entirely comprised of top prospects.
The Pirates roster was just announced for this significant game, which will take place on Friday, March 14 at 1:05 EST. This year's edition features many exciting prospects, and even a few Pirates players that have not appeared in an affiliated minor league game, to this point.
Now, fans will get to see them on a bigger stage, against their own level of competition, before the regular season gets underway.

Pirates fans get to see these young stars in action during the 2025 Spring Breakout game.
Last year, Paul Skenes got the start for just an inning in the first edition of Spring Breakout and wowed fans, striking out top Orioles prospects Jackson Holliday and Enrique Bradfield Jr.. The starting pitcher for this game is unknown, but it is likely to be Bubba Chandler, the Pirates' newest top prospect. Following him are more highly ranked arms in Hunter Barco, Anthony Solometo, and Zander Mueth, but one that has not gotten a lot of attention yet is David Matoma.
The fireballer from Uganda throws triple digits at just 19 years old and has only thrown in rookie ball, so getting this chance was a surprise for him. Additionally, Konnor Griffin and Wyatt Sanford will get to play. They are both fresh out of high school after being drafted last summer. Griffin has played a bit in spring training, but has no other game action with the Pirates under his belt. Termarr Johnson and Jhonny Severino are also infield prospects to pay attention to in this game.
This game is a great way for fans to get familiar with the prospects in the organization, especially since this is like a showcase game against the best of another organization. Among these names, only Chandler is in competition for a spot in Pittsburgh, and everyone else is still a ways away. The purpose of this event is to get a taste of the future, and there will be a lot to look out for when the Pirates take on the Phillies in this league-wide event.
