Every spring, fans get to see what their organization's top prospects bring to the table in games, but it never lasts very long. Fans often see a lot of the team's younger prospects get optioned earlier, considering they more than likely won't crack the roster in Pittsburgh and can further refine themselves at minor-league camp.

After a loss to the Tigers to send the Pirates to 6-3 in the Grapefruit League, they made their first round of roster cuts, including four players ranked within MLB Pipeline's top 30 prospects in the Pirates organization.

Pirates option four top prospects to minor league camp in first spring training wave of reassignments.

Anthony Solometo

The lone pitcher sent down was the Pirates' highest -ated southpaw prospect Anthony Solometo. Coming off a poor 2024 season, the lefty needed to reset badly in 2025. He got off to a decent start, delivering a scoreless inning with a walk and two strikeouts. Something also to note was his sinker sitting 91-92, which is a tick up from last season.

Termarr Johnson

Termarr Johnson was also optioned. The team's first-rounder from 2022 has a great set of tools and is starting to display them. He could make his debut in 2025, but he has a lot to prove in Double-A first. Johnson finished spring training with a hit and a run batted in over the course of seven at-bats.

Jack Brannigan

The fourteenth-ranked prospect in Jack Brannigan is another guy who could see his MLB debut if he puts together a solid 2025 season, starting in Double-A. He brings an incredible arm at third base with some power at the plate. This spring, he picked up two hits with a run scoring triple in 11 at-bats.

Konnor Griffin

Lastly is the 18 year old in Konnor Griffin. All fans were excited to see the young prospect get a chance this spring and he was very impressive. Griffin picked up two hits, including a go-ahead home run yesterday.

Something also important to note was his defensive position in limited MLB action. Drafted as a shortstop, Griffin saw only time in center field this spring. Even after moving Oneil Cruz to center, the Pirates still want to build up their depth in the outfield in the farm system.

Griffin is still just 18 years old. This is not the last time Pirates fans will hear from him, or hear tell of his exploits, this season.
