The Pittsburgh Pirates are supposed to be taking on the Cubs on Tuesday evening in what could be a really fascinating game. Chicago is playing really well at the moment and while the Pirates lost back-to-back games to the Dodgers to lose the series, they showed signs of life against a tough opponent. Unfortunately, bad weather has come into the area to spoil all the fun.
The tarp went on the field very quickly about an hour before the game as a bunch of rain came into the Pittsburgh area. That was a pretty big clue that the game would not start on time which proved correct as we are officially in a rain delay.
Due to inclement weather, the start of tonight’s game has been delayed and will begin at approximately 7 PM.

Pirates vs. Cubs Rain Delay: Latest weather updates and when the game will start
Most rain delays are very open-ended and are basically "we will start the game when the bad weather is gone". However, it appears as though the teams have a forecast they have some confidence in as it was already announced that the plan is to start the game at 7 PM. Plans can obviously change, but that is cause for some optimism that fans won't have to wait long for this game to start even if runs over the 7 PM "deadline".
It would have been nice if the Cubs could have somehow been forced to warm star starting pitcher Shota Imanaga up enough that the delay could limit his availability, but the delay came before the game and doesn't seem like it will be that long. The upside is that starter Andrew Heaney has been pitching really well with a 1.72 ERA in five starts and should be nice and fresh.
We'll keep this post updated in the event anything changes when it comes to the start time for the game or if the weather changes. Hopefully this prediction holds and this game will only have a short delay.
