The Pittsburgh Pirates are not playing good baseball right now. This is especially true when it comes to the offense. If you have an account on X (formerly Twitter) then you know that fans want people fired. That is what is going to happen whenever you get swept by the Mets and lose a series to the Red Sox. The Pirates now have a 5 game-losing streak heading into the final game of the series against Boston.

However, the Pirates may have a chance to stop the losing streak at 5 games. The team is catching a break for the Sunday afternoon game as the Red Sox will be without their top slugger, Tristan Casas. According to reports, the lefty hitting Casas is already heading back in Boston and has already been placed on the 10 -Day Injured List.

The Pirates are struggling to score runs right now. So the Red Sox losing their premium, middle-of-the-lineup bat, should benefit the Pirates. In 2023, Casas posted an .857 OPS and belted 24 home runs. That was just his 2nd season and many expected him to take an even bigger step forward in 2024.

For the Pirates, they will send lefty Martin Perez to the hill. Being Perez is a veteran lefty there was a chance that Casas would have gotten the day off anyway. Although, he could have entered the game in the later innings once Perez had departed and provided instant offense.

The Pirates are 11-10 and with a win, they can match the Red Sox with 12 victories.

It would be nice for the team to get back on the right track in this last game. The team will welcome the Milwaukee Brewers in for a series starting Monday night. So if there is a time to turn things around now would be a great time.
