Pirates Prospect Update: Bubba Chandler, Mitch Jebb, Futures Game roster
The Pirates' sixth-ranked prospect, Mitch Jebb, broke out of his slump with a great week against Jersey Shore. In the last week, Jebb had 11 hits, which translated into a batting average of .579 with a home run and seven runs batted in. He also walked nine times and struck out just three times.
Jebb needed this hot streak to break out of his season long slump. On the season, Jebb has a batting average of .224 with five home runs and 27 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of .638, which includes an on-base percentage of .319 and a slugging percentage of .320. His wRC+ is at 86 and his strikeout percentage sits at 23.3%.
Bubba Chandler continues to dominate, which resulted in MLB Pipeline making Chandler the Pirates' number one prospect.
The Pirates' newest No. 1 prospect, Bubba Chandler, has been dominating with the Altoona Curve. In his last two starts, he has tallied 21 strikeouts, including a career-high 11 in one game. He also threw just 13.2 innings and allowed five hits, two walks, and two earned runs.
On the season, Chandler has a 4-5 record with an earned run average of 4.17 in 54 innings pitched and has struck out 68 batters. Opponents are batting just .200 against him and his WHIP sits at 1.15. He is proving why he is a top prospect, but could also be a candidate for the rotation at the end of the season.
Carlson Reed close to becoming a ranked prospect for the Pirates
Carlson Reed was the Pirates' fourth-round draft pick in 2023. He has continued to impress with a dominant season with the Bradenton Marauders. Through 13 starts, Reed has a 4-3 record with a 2.21 earned run average in 61 innings pitched and has struck out 76 batters. Opponents are batting just .189 against him and his WHIP sits at a 1.21. This dominant season may get him ranked within the Pirates' top 30 prospects soon enough.
Termarr Johnson and Bubba Chandler selected for the MLB Futures Game
The two top Pirate prospects have been selected into the MLB Futures Game. Chandler, the Pirates' first-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline, and Termarr Johnson, the Pirates' second-ranked prospect, will each get a chance to show off their skills on a national stage during All-Star Weekend. This game will be take place on July 13 at 4:00 EST and, for the first time ever, will be accompanied by a prospect skills challenge.
