In a season that has turned disastrous in a hurry, Mitch Keller has been a bright spot for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Ahead of Wednesday's start against the San Francisco Giants, Keller sports a 6-1 record and a 3.01 ERA. Today, he'll face Alex Wood of the Giants, who sports a 1-0 record and a 3.51 ERA on the year.
So, how should we handle this NL matchup? A bet on the total is the only way to go.
Let's take a look at the odds.
Pirates vs. Giants odds, run line, and total
Pirates vs. Giants prediction and pick
Outside of his last start against the Mariners, in which he finally looked human, the bet to make in Mitch Keller starts is the UNDER. He has allowed more than two earned runs in just three of his 11 starts this season.
But, just because he's been strong in his starts, doesn't mean you should take a shot betting on the Pirates. Their offense has been amongst the worst in baseball lately. In fact, They're 28th in the Majors in OPS in the month of May at just .638.
Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants offense hasn't been much to write home about this month either, coming in at just 19th in OPS at .716 over the same time frame.
With that being said, Wood has also been a strong arm in the rotation this season, allowing more than two earned runs just once in his seven starts.
I'll back the UNDER in today's National League showdown.
