The Pittsburgh Pirates are currently in first place in the National League Central. Hopefully, they can continue that into July. Speaking of first place and July, the Major League Baseball Draft is now less than 1 month away. The Pittsburgh Pirates have the first overall selection after winning Baseball's first ever Draft Lottery.

The 2023 Major League Baseball Draft is a three-day event that will start the night of July 9th. They typically only do the first round on night one now that there is more media coverage for the event. Of course, the Draft used to take place in June, but now it takes place up against the All-Star Break.

If you have looked into the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Draft at all then you know LSU outfielder Dylan Crews is the name to watch at pick #1. Some other names that are projected to go top 5 are Florida Gator outfielder Wyatt Langford, LSU Pitcher Paul Skenes, and prep outfielder Walker Jenkins. Crews is the clear-cut #1 player, receiving the only 60 Future Value from FanGraphs Board.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will only have 1 other pick in the Top 50 at #42 overall. This is the team's second-round pick. The Draft Lottery is only in effect for the first round of the Draft. All the other rounds are based on the reverse order of the standings. This gives the Pittsburgh Pirates the third pick in every round.
