Matt Gorski hit his 1st Triple-A home run, a big night for Nick Gonzales, and more Pittsburgh Pirates minor league action
Tuesday afternoon saw the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians were defeated in a high scoring affair. Following a 10-6 loss against the Omaha Storm Chasers, the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates has fallen to 63-74 on the season.
Matt Gorski started at first base for the Indians, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double, and his 1st home run at the Triple-A level. Nick Gonzales also had a big day at the plate going 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and a solo home run, his 12th of the season at Triple-A.
Continuing his rehab assignment Henry Davis went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Domingo Leyba was 1-for-4, Canaan Smith-Njigba was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, catcher Grant Koch was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Roansy Contreras started for Indy, allowing 2 runs in 4.2 innings pitched. The 2 runs allowed by Contreras came on two hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. Contreras also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.
Chase De Jong walked a batter and struck out a pair while allowing 2 runs on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Dauri Moreta pitched the 7th inning and struck out a pair, but he also allowed a run on two hits. In the 8th inning, Travis MacGregor allowed 5 runs on four hits, two walks, and no strikeouts.
1-run win for Double-A Altoona
Looking to finish the season strong and get back to .500, the Double-A Altoona Curve defeated the Akron RubberDucks 3-2 on Tuesday night. With the win, the Curve are now 64-66 on the season with five games remaining.
Justin Meis started for the Curve and pitched 3 scoreless inning. He allowed two hits, walked a batter, struck out three, and threw 38 of 60 pitches for strikes. Michell Miliano followed by allowing 2 runs on five hits, two walk, and three strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
Geronimo Franzua allowed a hit and struck a batter out in 1.1 scoreless innings. Cam Junker got the final six outs of the game for Altoona, allowing a hit while pitching a scoreless 8th and 9th inning to close out the victory.
Carter Bins was 0-for-2 at the plate, but drew a walk and drove in a run. Jackson Glenn was 1-for-3 with a walk, double, and a run scored. Jase Bowen was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and Connor Scott was 1-for-4 with a double and a RBI.
