The 2023 season started in a very ideal fashion for fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team got off to an impressive start, playing winning baseball over the first month or so. However, the best moment came at PNC Park for the home opener.

On April 7th, Andrew McCutchen returned to PNC Park dawning Pirates logo and standing in the box as a hitter for the home team once more. This was a day that fans would talk about for the rest of the 2023 season. The fan reaction was crazy, to say the least, the applause went on and on. Cutch was visibly emotional as well.

Andrew McCutchen has been a special player for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He most notably saved the Franchise, or at least was the icon of the teams that did. He won the National League MVP in 2013 and took 3rd in 2012 and 2014. He led the Bucs back to the playoffs, to winning, something that had not happened in 20 years.

So it was not surprising that fans were so excited when Andrew McCutchen signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates last offseason.

He signed a 1-year deal worth $5 million it was clear that he wanted to be back in Pittsburgh. Which of course fans appreciate as well, giving fans a reason to feel optimistic toward the Organization.

Because of this the Cutch was very much in the spot light for the 2023 season. With him returning to the city, bringing passion back to the base, and his efforts in the community, Andrew McCutchen to lead by example in the city of Pittsburgh. This has led him to earning Pittsburgh Magazines honor of Pittsburgher of the Year.

This obviously is an award given to one person each year. Cutch, who embodies what it means to the Pirates and a member of the community definitely deserved to be considered. Cutch brings a lot to the Franchise, on and off the field.
